Pablo Pérez: “I felt good tonight”

Following the match against Valencia CF, Pablo Pérez, Willy Caballero and Sergio Sánchez appeared in the mixed zone.

Pablo Pérez made his debut with the Blue and Whites this evening.  The Argentinian-born player adapted to the match quickly when he came on in the second half: “I felt good tonight.  It took me a bit of time to adjust to the rhythm of play, as in Argentina we tend to play at a slower pace.  I adapted to play fairly quickly, within about 10 minutes, and then started to move with the ball and put a bit of pressure on the rival.  I felt good, although physically I still need to improve.”

Pablo Pérez had an excellent opportunity to score a goal this evening: “It was a great chance for me.  A good ball from Camacho landed at my feet and I launched a strong shot at the target, but the Valencia keeper was really good tonight and dashed my hopes of a debut goal.”

The Argentine midfielder’s international transfer arrived just over two hours before kick-off: “I’ve been nervous and anxious all day today, waiting for my transfer to get here.  It arrived very close to the start of the game, and the coach gave me a chance to play tonight.  I need to focus on getting used to the fast rhythm of play and improve both physically and technically,” explains Pablo Pérez, Málaga CF’s number ‘11’.

Another star of tonight’s show, Willy Caballero, gives a positive opinion about his team’s performance: “We played very good football against a quality side, with both teams creating promising goal opportunities.  Either team could have taken three points from this match.  We maintained a strong determination for victory for the entire 90 minutes, and are pleased we gained a point and didn’t concede a goal.  We need to concentrate on the fact that we’ve got another point now, we created a lot of goal chances, and due to an excellent performance by the rival keeper, we didn’t keep the three points here.”

The Argentinian-born keeper states that the performance by both goalkeepers was the reason for tonight’s goalless draw: “Both the Valencia keeper and myself had a good match tonight.”

Finally, Sergio Sánchez talks about tonight’s clash with Valencia CF: “This game was 50-50 for the 90 minutes.  Both teams had chances to score, and it really was a vibrant, exciting and intense match.  We really did give our all on the pitch tonight and the fans were right behind us.  We’re pleased with a job well done, although it’s a shame we couldn’t have gained three points from this match.  Our dynamic was good against a tough rival, and we’ve got more difficult games coming up, so we’re looking forward to returning to winning ways.”
