Schuster: “It’s been a great year working with these players”

Málaga CF coach, Bernd Schuster held a post-match press conference at La Rosaleda stadium.

The German-born manager, who was sent off during the last game of the season, comments: “I’ve got some great memories from my time here.  It’s been a great year working with these players.  We’ve enjoyed some wonderful moments, been through tough times and watched the team improve…that’s the name of the game.  The best part was in the second round of the League competition when we had the right team to ensure we secured a place in the First Division; the starting-11 which we didn’t have in the first round.  I would have liked to have won more home games, as it was a shame we lost at times, even though we played well.”

Tonight’s match was Schuster’s last as Málaga CF coach: “Of course I’m sorry it’s come to an end, but I’m leaving here pleased with what we’ve achieved.  We really did work hard all season, and that hard work won’t just stop, it’s important to keep moving forward.  That’s life, but I’m OK.  I’m going away a happy man.”

With regards to tonight’s match and his sending off, the manager adds: “Nordin Amrabat was on the floor and all the players were around him; we were all on the line when the fourth official came up and told me to leave the pitch.  I said Caparrós’ second coach was on the field, but he told the referee and I was sent off.”
