Portillo: “What better way to end the season with a win here with our fans?”
Málaga CF’s Portillo, Antunes and Rescaldani appeared in the mixed zone after the game to address the media.
Tonight’s goal-scorer comments: “Ending the season with a victory was important, above all for the fans who’ve been behind us every step of the way, in what has been a more difficult year than expected. We’re pleased with what we’ve achieved and will now rest and recharge our batteries to come back fighting next season,” explains Portillo. He thanks the Blue and Whites’ fans for their loyalty and support: “At the start of the season we weren’t at our best and things didn’t go our way, but as the year went on we improved and turned the situation around. We achieved our objectives and ended the year in the best way possible with our fans.”
Antunes adds: “It’s been a tough season, a lot of hard work, particularly at the beginning when we experienced a lot of difficulties. However we performed well in the second round and ending with a win tonight was very important.” The Portuguese-born winger is now focused on the World Cup, as he’s currently part of his country’s pre-selection: “I dream about the World Cup every night, it’s always in my head and I’d be thrilled if I got the chance to represent Portugal in the competition. A decision will be made on Monday, so I hope it goes well. Being with Málaga has been really important for me, as after two or three bad seasons followed a good six months with Portugal and my time here, which has given me back my confidence as a player.”
Finally, Ezequiel Rescaldani discusses ending the season with a win: “I’m pleased we won tonight at our home ground, which is what we’ve been wanting to do for some time, before we secured our permanency in the elite next year. It was important to end the year well, and we did that tonight in the best way we could.”
