The Serbian striker will occupy the professional registration of injured Pablo Chavarría on the first team, arriving on a free transfer, with a contract in ownership that extends for the 20/21 season.
After passing the medical at Centro Vithas at La Rosaleda Stadium, the latest Blue and White player will complete his incorporation once the final bureaucratic procedures with the Japanese Football Federation are resolved.
Stefan Scepovic is a tall, 31-year-old centre forward (10/01/1990) born in Belgrade, Serbia, with a good scoring background in several European leagues, and his most recent professional experience being in 2020 in the Japanese second division.
He started out in grassroots football in Mérida, where his father played in the ranks of the Extremadura club in the 96/97 season. Scepovic completed his training at OFK Beograd in his home country, the first team where he played as a professional, and in 2010 was loaned out to Italian outfit UC Sampdoria, beginning his journey through various teams on the continent. He was part of another historic team the following season, Belgian Club Brugge. In 11/12 he joined Hapoel Acre, scoring 13 goals in the Israeli league, returning to Belgrade to classic side, Partizan (12/13).
He arrived in Spain in the 13/14 season, joining Real Sporting, and enjoyed his best year with 23 goals in 31 games inLiga SmartBank. He left the Gijón team and moved to Celtic, winning the league and Scottish League Cup in 14/15. On loan from Celtic, Stefan returned to Spain, competing in the First Division with Getafe CF (15/16). With the Madrid outfit he moved up to LaLiga in 16/17. He then returned to Sporting – on loan from Getafe – in the silver division (17/18).
In recent years, Scepovic has played in Hungary, Poland and Japan. In addition, the new Malaguista signing has also been on international duty eight times with the Serbia national team between 2012 and 2014 (one goal).
