Javier Pedro Saviola appears on the Club’s official website from Argentina during a special week for him, as he looks forward to the League clash between his two former teams: Málaga and Barça.
‘El Conejo’ has just finished his second phase at the Club where he grew up, River Plate: “I was there for five months and it was wonderful to return to the club where I grew up both personally and professionally. We won the Copa Libertadores and were very competitive, and now my plan is to play outside of Argentina, as the only club I would be part of here is River,” says the 34-year-old player from Buenos Aires.
This Saturday the two teams with whom Saviola belonged to in Europe are meeting, Málaga CF and FC Barcelona: “I’m going to watch the game, they are two clubs that shaped my career. I was with Barça for four years and had some amazing moments, and I have some great memories of Málaga too, which is where my daughter was born,” says ‘Pibito’ who has “a great affection for two such important clubs, that both treated me with respect.”
“I have some wonderful memories of my teammates at Málaga, many have since pursued a successful career, along with Pellegrini, who gave so much to the team. I also remember the city fondly and all the fans, who made me so welcome from the start,” recalls the Argentine striker, who goes on to talk about MCF’s current situation: “It took a while to adapt, but now they’re mid-table and I hope they continue the run of good results. I would like to see the club moving up and following the same dynamic in order to get closer to European positions.”
Saviola, who was part of Málaga in the Champions League in 2012/13, has a special memory for the Blue and Whites’ fans: “We formed a very united group that season. I’m very grateful and would like to send a special hello to the people of Málaga, who showed me a lot of love. We took part in the Champions League hand in hand and made history. I will always remember this, as we made so many people happy. I enjoyed it so much and thanks to the fans for everything they did for me.”
