Ruano: “We played a match capable of winning the tie”
The Blue and Whites' coach is “proud” of his players. “They should be relaxed”, although “these are very tough times”, says the coach.
The Atlético Malagueño coach, Manel Ruano, held a press conference following the 0-0 draw at La Rosaleda against CD Castellón, and elimination in the second round of Second Division B play-offs. The Blue and Whites’ reserve team deserved to win the tie, but the goal chances they generated didn’t materialise.
Bad luck
“You need to have luck in life, if not you’re more exposed to these things. I think we were unlucky from the draw, also not being champions, without disrespecting Mancha Real.”
“We were faced with two very tough teams. Castellón do a lot of things well, and it’s incredibly difficult to create opportunities. We did a great deal, but it didn’t serve us well.”
Encouraging the team
“I’m very much a non-conformist, you can always do more. All we can do is encourage and animate the players. They’re distraught. There are many ways to lose. I prefer this way, even though it’s very painful for the players. I think today we were the superior side, but it was for nothing.”
“I’ve told them to be proud, they proved many things today. It was the best match of the season. We played a match capable of winning the tie. They should be relaxed. Those who came to see the match enjoyed it, and witnessed the hard work we’ve been doing all season. These are very tough times.”
Fans
“I’m grateful for the influx of fans who came to the stadium. They helped us so much. It’s a shame they’re not going home with a win. At least they got to see and enjoy the work we do within the Academy.”
