Recio: “It’s time to take a step forward”

The Málaga CF captain attended to the media before the training match against Lausanne Sport: “The coach comes with clear ideas, which is important”.

New coach

“We’ve only had a few days, in training with José for just two, but I think it’s important that he comes with clear ideas and a good mentality. When there’s a change of coach, there’s always a change of dynamic over the first few days, a change of intensity and a new air. I think it was needed. Míchel gave us a lot over the time he was here, last year he was able to take on the half-dead team and we ended the season well, but at the end of the day results are what counts, and when they’re not there, you have to seek solutions. He tried everything, but at times luck wasn’t on his side, and at other times, the team wasn’t performing at the required level, starting with the players. However, now a breath of fresh air will do us good, and hopefully we’ll kick off well with good luck and good results”.

Motivation

“Our motivation is at the maximum. We want to get the second round off to a good start. We have to try as much as we can to forget the awful first round, focus on the second round and the 19 upcoming games. If we start by obtaining good results, the team will change the dynamic and everything that looks black now will be less complicated within two months. We need to take this step, hopefully it will happen, that the team will be able to fight and not give up, as you cannot give up until the maths says otherwise. This mentality is good and hopefully we’ll start from Monday”.

New ideas

“The coach comes with clear ideas, which is important. When you have a dressing room that is suffering, seeing a coach with clear ideas is essential. It reminds me a lot of Javi’s style (Gracia), and for those of us who were with him, we already know that way of working and playing. Hopefully we’ll get started on the right foot, with demanding, high-intensity training sessions, so that everything we do in training is reflected in the matches. I hope the coach has luck on his side and we get the right results and change this dynamic”.

Step forward

“It’s time to take a step forward, and be capable of doing what the coach asks of us and wants us to convey on the field. In the end, we are the ones playing, and from Monday we’ll have another opportunity to start the second round and focus on claiming 25-26 points to fight and try and save ourselves. That’s what we’re striving for”.

José González

“The other day he was introduced to the entire team, he made his ideas clear to us, his way of understanding football, his way of playing; it’s important that he gets to know the players quickly. On behalf of everyone in the dressing room I said that I hope he’s fortunate and we get the results, that everyone is content, works hard and hopefully we’ll see it on the pitch with results, which is what we need”.

Players

“What was said the other day was a reality; now the coach is no longer an excuse, the players are always the ones who play, whether Míchel or José is at the helm, we are the ones in action. I hope we’re capable of showing this on the pitch with good results, which will be great for us, for the new coach, and for everyone”.

#EibarMálaga

“We’re going there to win because we need the three points. There have been games, the most recent two above all, against Getafe and Espanyol, that were decided by small details, as well as games we could have drawn yet lost by 1-0, and Alavés too. These are points we’ve been losing. Perhaps now, if we had earned two or three more points with those draws we would be looking at things differently. Our first option is to win at Eibar, we don’t need to speculate, but when you can’t win, the important thing is not to lose. Especially when there’s a new coach, as this enthusiasm that we have to change the results means that if we can’t win games, then we must at least score points. So, little by little as I say, we must reach these 25 or 26 points we need in the second round”.
