Press conference
Pepe Mel: “I believe in this Club and this team”

The Málaga CF coach held a press conference the day before #MálagaLugo. “I understand that people are disappointed, but I ask for a little understanding, especially during the 90 minutes of play,” he said.

“Our situation meant that, on matchday 10, we played a crucial match. However, I’m focusing on the eagerness the lads showed for the next game on the trip (back from Leganés). This means they know they can turn it around,” Mel stated, who went on to confirm that both Gallar and Escassi will try out in training before tomorrow's match.

In regard to gameplay, he made it clear that “we need people who finish the actions inside the area. We need things to happen in the area. We have managed to dominate our own area, until the match against Leganés, but we have to dominate the rival's area too. We’re working on that. We have to get to the area with more people.”

The Blue and White coach valued the importance of the environment and the players: “We work for and with the people of Málaga. Our work has no meaning if it is not towards our people. Málaga – when we play - is represented by 11 footballers, and they will do better than if they are nervous, don't feel supported or think it won't go well. Lugo will be defeated by the players who are on the pitch. The players are the key part.” He went on to add: “I understand that people are disappointed, but I ask for a little understanding, especially during the 90 minutes of play, and then express yourself as you wish.”

In regard to CD Lugo, Mel sees them as “a dangerous team from set pieces due to their height, we can’t allow them too many corners or lateral free kicks. They focus on a direct game, and we have to be prepared to fight it. They are a team that remains in the division and are very reliable in what they do.”

The coach was clear about the current sporting situation: “I believe in this Club and this team. I agree with the fans, this Club has a background to demand great things. Four games have passed, I've been here three weeks, and I see that the team is improving, but not enough. Málaga need the three points, not nice words. I hope we play horribly tomorrow and win 1-0.”

In relation to Lumor, the Ghanaian winger on trial, he’s “physically in good shape” and “can help us perfectly well,” said Mel who also spoke of another player, Luis Muñoz, at the end of his press conference. “In Leganés I decided not to use him, and I think this match is going to be very important. He has to help us, he has many qualities that the team needs. He’s a second line player who is going to bring a lot.”
