Pellicer: “We’re focused on giving continuity to the sensations”

The Málaga CF coach spoke to the media in advance of the last regular league match, which will see the Blue and Whites face Real Madrid Castilla CF.

Seeking victory against a great rival

“Being third doesn’t depend on us. Our goal is to win the match. The really important thing is just around the corner, but we are focused on Castilla, winning and getting 70 points. We have to be prepared for everything and give a good performance against an opponent who is in the best moment of the season. Last season they were just a few minutes away from achieving the goal we want. Raúl has done a very good job with players who are going to perform at a good level. We’re very focused on the last game, on giving continuity to the sensations of the last game and recovering players who are going to be very important.”

Good week of work

“The atmosphere of the week is much better because victory generates self-esteem. We coaches have to know how to adjust, being optimistic in the face of defeat and pessimistic in victory, against the current.”

A team to win

“Tomorrow we are going to put out the best team to win. There are several doubts about how the week has gone, there are players with some discomfort. I don't think the team will be repeated, we have a base after the other day. We saw important things and everyone has to do their bit, I'm not going to give any clues. I have a clear idea in my mind.”

End of the regular season

“I give importance to being ourselves, having good feelings and competing. This is a rival that has won four of the last five games, they play with energy, they’re dynamic and generate a lot of finishing at their stadium. We do not depend on ourselves, we have to enjoy the pressure knowing that the most beautiful thing is yet to come. Reaching 70 points would make it among the best scores in history. We are the team that concedes the least, Roberto is in a good situation. Individual energy conveys to the collective. We have a good test tomorrow to get to what is important in the best possible conditions.”

Focused on the details

“We have played 37 games, lost six, drew 13 and won the rest. The team went behind on the scoreboard and came back. Two minutes in La Rosaleda, with the energy of La Rosaleda, we can score two goals. We must keep insisting. We have the team and mentality for it. The people are there. I am concerned with focusing on the good things we are doing and correcting the small details that are going to make the difference.”

The important moment has arrived

“The important thing is now, every time we look to the future we forget the present. We have to focus on the Castilla game, because it will mark how we arrive. We’ve had more than 200 training sessions, 37 matches. This is the moment in which we have to work on the small details, now the mentalities and strong people appear. We have overcome obstacles, we’re prepared, we’ve climbed many mountains, it goes up and down. The small details are what have to be taken care of. We have to be as strong as possible.”
