Pellicer: “We saw a solid team that knew what was at stake”

The Blue and White coach values the point obtained in Vallecas as positive in the post #RayoMálaga remote press conference. “The people should be proud of the team’s determination”, he stated.

Analysis of the 0-0

"Rayo are one of the best attacking teams, if not the best. The point means a lot. At the beginning we weren’t comfortable on the pitch, we hardly had the ball. Then from minute 25 the team felt better and started to play in the other half. We suffered somewhat, Rayo had a lot of players on the attack, but in the second half we saw a solid team that knew what was at stake. The protagonists are the players, we’re not looking for excuses and will compete with the players we have. If not the match, people should be proud of the team’s determination. I’m very happy for the players and congratulate them. I’m proud of them as well as us behind the scenes”.

Order and solidity

"It’s like a boxing match, each team had its moments. Whoever would have taken the lead on the scoreboard would have won a great deal. We were going for victory, but the result reflects the success; there were shots at goal, we made three and the rival two. We never lost order in attack or defence. I’m happy with the solid performance, this category is so tight, but we’ve had numerous matches now where we’ve kept a clean sheet and obtained points. We need to follow this path”.

Squads

"We’re seeing how much of a struggle it is to win every match. Today’s rival could be one of the best three – in the Second Division – but we’re highly demanding and we want more. Now it’s time to think about the next one and being able to recover as many players as we can. That way we’ll be able to find better solutions and hopefully we’ll feel more comfortable on the pitch”.

Juande, like clockwork

"The pitch speaks. Juande is like clockwork, he never fails. He’s a very consistent player. The best thing about a club, its heritage, are the fans and the players. Juande works hard and has everything straight in his head, the pitch speaks for itself. I’m very happy for Cristo too, after six or seven months of injury, it’s great to have him back. I also congratulate the older players, who make the younger ones feel at ease”.

Ramón, starting-11 and substitution

"Ramón has been training very well, but he’s been suffering with a shoulder injury. He should be congratulated, like all the players. We decided to bring Benkhemassa on as we wanted to tighten up upfront. Everyone who played did so at a very high level”.

Commitment

"The team has been committed in every match. The numbers shouldn’t make us suffer. The team is, as the rival coach said, one of the ones who runs the most. We must be prudent and humble and endorse it on Sunday with a win”.

Buenacasa

"Sergio did an immense job. He piled pressure on the rival, forced cards and put on an impeccable performance. He gave his all. I congratulate him for his hard work, he’s going to help us a lot. The plan? Plans can change in a minute, but we try to be as balanced as possible”.
