Press conference
Pellicer: “We have to be one of the teams that best finishes the season”

The Málaga CF coach held a press conference in advance of Sunday's match against Atlético Sanluqueño CF: “It’s a good chance against a great rival to measure ourselves and bring continuity,” he stated.

Atco. Sanluqueño
They are in the best moment of the season and are one of the most on form teams in the last seven matches in terms of results and gameplay. They want to dominate the game with possession and have a lot of confidence. We remember the first leg, it was good but we lacked effectiveness. We’re aware of their potential so we have to pay more attention than we did against Alcoyano, match their level of focus, and bring continuity. It’s important that we continue improving. We must try to control the small details to find the formula to achieve victory.”

Room for improvement
We have to keep improving. We are in a good moment, but the most important thing is to have a collective feeling and be strong in attack and defence. We’re understanding what we need to do, it’s about giving continuity to the version we’re seeing now and increasing it. An important stretch is coming up, there will be teams that score more than others. We have to continue with this dynamic and be one of the teams that best finishes the season. It’s a good chance against a great rival to measure ourselves and bring continuity.”

Balance
We have to know how to manage matches and be optimistic in the face of a storm. When the results are going our way, be objective and realistic. This is a match against an opponent in optimal shape, in their last outing they drew 0-0 with Ibiza. This is a different context to Alcoyano. You have to manage good dynamics, keep your feet on the ground and treat every game as a mystery. Our focus has to be laser-like, and we must provide continuity to reach the last 10 games with all the possibilities of what we’re competing for.”

A big family
Victories taste better among friends and family. We are creating a family, they are competing with each other in every scenario. This is a good group, which combines commitment and joy, but with very great responsibility. To fight for something big there has to be a collective feeling. From the basis of commitment and a good atmosphere, everything is better. The bad cop is the coach, I am happy with my day-to-day work. I see things that I like about invisible training, but we have to give it continuity.”

Similarities with the 18-player squad
There are similar things. That squad was brutal, very difficult to beat. For everything they experienced in the pandemic, with extreme situations in day-to-day training. Now we are very similar, with homegrown players who are maturing in leaps and bounds, and people with more experience. We realise the responsibility that exists in this Club. The fans and the Club are far above the division. We have the responsibility, not pressure, to make the maximum effort, which we’re doing.”
