Pellicer: “There are things we need to improve, but the team has soul”

The Malaguista coach spoke to the media this Tuesday after the draw against CF Intercity. “We have to reflect, but we remain with the positives,” he said.

Highly irregular match

“We had a very irregular match in all aspects. Particularly the situations in the first half, which I think were all down to us, both good and bad. We were bad in the set piece actions and in the second play. They finished off every corner for us. This break hasn’t been great for us.”

A tough rival

“We knew we were facing a big rival. They are the only ones who have beaten Ibiza and will be fighting until the end. Up against us we had a rival who has taken advantage of all the situations, which is also credit to them.”

Valuing the positives

“We remain with the positives. It was a very good start to the second half, with the changes, with the energy. Aaron and Izan were the best in the game. We have to reflect. The team has soul and fights until the end. Roberto made an immense effort as there were no changes.”

Fixing the mistakes

“There’s a lot to improve as tonight we were highly irregular. In terms of intensity, there were situations in which we weren’t present. It’s a matter of concentration, a matter of attention. They are a strong opponent in regard to set pieces, throw-ins and second plays. They didn't have a very associative game. They did well, but also because of our mistakes.”

Important point

“This point must be valued. In such an irregular match, and trailing behind twice on the scoreboard, the team continues to compete and believe until the end. In previous years this didn’t happen in Malaga.”

Not at 100%

“We had to force the situation with Manu and Juanpe. Luca was in training all week and we had to hold on. I saw several players lacking rhythm. Tomorrow we’ll rest and focus on the Cup game.”

Group effort and commitment

“They have made a huge effort to be here with us. They’ll have their process due to the injuries. They are highly competitive, but they need a process. The Cup match is good for us to accumulate minutes. You can’t go from inactivity to being at 100%.”
