Pellicer: “The young lads are the Club’s greatest asset”

The Málaga CF coach analysed the victory in a match featuring many homegrown players and the first team debuts of Izan Merino and Aaron Ochoa.

A match to compete

“We knew that it was a game in which we had to compete and for the young lads to step up. We believe in them and brought out the best team to win the game. We made the most of it to try things with the mentality of winning.”

Fighting in every match for the fans

“You play against a higher category rival in a Copa del Rey context, which is different. It's time to congratulate all the lads. There are a lot of people behind us and we have to compete with them.”

The enthusiasm of the young players

“I remain with the enthusiasm and courage of the players. We had a hesitant start, but we became more relaxed as time went on. Those who have less minutes throughout the season had the opportunity and I think they showed a lot today. Enthusiasm is something that is conveyed on the pitch, and we have to show this at our ground.”

Competing against a Second Division team

“Málaga is a demanding club and we defeated a higher category side. But today is the day to focus on the enthusiasm of the players and with a victory at home that motivates us. The context is different, but we have shown that we can compete against anyone.”

Young players are the Club’s best asset

“The performance of the young players was very good, but with the younger ones we have to be cautious. They are the Club’s best asset and we must take care and work with them. We need to thank the Academy coaches who greatly influence the emergence of boys like those who played today.”
