Pellicer: We’re sorry for the defeat for the fans who travelled here

The Málaga CF coach held a press conference after the first league game in Castalia. “We have things to improve on, but there are many positives, especially the capacity for effort,” he said.

Sergio Pellicer, Málaga CF coach, appeared in the Castalia press room following the defeat in the season debut in Primera Federación.

“It was a very open match,” he started out by saying. “Castellón started very well, then we got into the game. There were many phases, the lads gave everything, we knew how to take advantage of the spaces, but we lacked efficiency. It was very much a back-and-forth match marked by small details. I have nothing to reproach the players for, we have improved from a technical-tactical aspect,” he stated.

“We’re sorry for the defeat for the fans who travelled here and the situation we’re in. We lost to a rival, at their stadium, who will be fighting for the top. This has only just begun, it’s going to be a roller coaster. We have a difficult week, and we could see the effort made. Juanpe is now in hospital, Alfonso cut his head open, as did a Castellón player. It was a great match for the spectators, but a tough one for the coach.”

Despite the negative result there were some notable aspects: We have things to improve on, but there are many positives, especially the capacity for effort,” Pellicer added.

Lastly, the Málaga CF coach is focused on improving ahead of matchday 2: “This is only the start, we are lifting our spirits. After the matches you have to reinforce things and then look for solutions and unity. People need their team to win, and we have to convey the capacity for effort. Now’s the time to think about winning at La Rosaleda, the fans will be expecting it, and we want to give them what we couldn't give them today.”
