Pellicer: “We needed a win at La Rosaleda; this is Málaga”

The Malaguista coach spoke in the ‘Juan Cortés’ press room after the 1-0 victory against CD Tenerife. “I'm very happy with the effort from the players; with humility and hard work, they will continue to grow,” he stated.

Three points with the fans

“Today, I leave even happier because of the need and obligation we had. Two consecutive wins, even though we’ve played worse than in other matches, but the difference isn’t that big. Despite some small mistakes, against teams that have nothing to lose, we managed the game well and endured the pressure. Set pieces bring joy because of the invisible work behind them, and we had the chance to seal the game. Maybe we lacked some composure in the final minutes, but we needed a win at La Rosaleda. This is Málaga, suffering, but continuing to grow. I’m very happy with the effort from the players.

Very important victory

“We know our objective, but we want to be ambitious. Today was a very important moment. We have to be aware that we want more. If we didn’t get the win, we could have fallen into a negative streak. We must be realistic but ambitious, always taking steps forward. Without losing humility, that’s the key.”

Collective spirit with the fans

“One day, Dioni gets an ovation, another day it’s Chupete, Kevin, or Lobete… The fans appreciate the intent, the effort, the commitment, and the desire. Today, we made changes, and that’s the value of having a strong squad. There were moments when Roko was whistled, but the fans are very appreciative. Málaga’s supporters are among the best in the world because even if you give them a little, they give you so much in return. With humility and an unwavering work ethic, the players will continue to grow.”

Goal from a set piece

“That play was something we had worked on. It was risky because of the backward pass, which could have led to a counterattack. In the dressing room, Manolo said, ‘dare to go for it.’ It’s all about confidence and having the courage to execute it.”
