Pellicer: “It’s a very tough league; we have to keep up that energy”

Málaga CF’s coach spoke to the media after the team’s debut in LALIGA HYPERMOTION 25/26. “We need to improve; that’s the ambition we must have,” he stated.

Balance on the pitch

“In the first half there were situations where we lacked precision, but in the first 30 minutes we outplayed them. The second half was more balanced, with greater consistency in the pace of play. With two strikers we risked losing control of the midfield, that was the trade-off, without the superiority we had in the first half. We need to improve.”

Luismi, the bad news

“The worst news is Luismi, who has a fracture. That shows his commitment, giving everything. There were moments for both sides, but we lacked consistency and we need to improve those habits. We must be patient, know how to play with the scoreline, and learn to manage and recognise when to be more direct and when not to. Also, maintaining continuity in our play and in our pressing.”

The path to follow

“We have to keep taking risks and avoid being predictable, with players who can threaten spaces and read their teammates’ movements. And we must maintain that energy, it’s a league with very tough teams. Now, 80% of the teams in this division play proactively, with different structures, and we need to win in the way we see fit while competing. That will define our roadmap.”

Ambition and the pursuit of improvement

“I’ve seen things. In the end, it’s about results, but I think last year we lacked consistency, and this year we have more options. We need to reach the target as soon as possible, which is 50 points, and get past the ‘mountain passes.’ That’s the ambition we must have. We need to improve on last year, which wasn’t enough. But I saw things that, if we remain consistent, I believe we can achieve important things.”
