Pellicer: “It's an important step, but there's still a long way to go”

The Málaga coach spoke after the victory against CD Castellón. “We’ve done an impeccable job; now it's time to rest and think about Granada,” he said.

Closer to the objective

“An important step. There’s still a long way to go. A victory that, in the way it was achieved, brings us together. It strengthens those bonds of unity, that magic between La Rosaleda, our fans, and the team. I focus on the collective and congratulate the lads for their work. They gave it their all.”

Great work to earn the three points

“We are a team that wants things to happen. We came from that streak, those small details, especially at home, that were penalising us. Everyone has done an impeccable job. Now it's time to rest and think about the upcoming matches.”

Good match against a great rival

“Castellón, according to Big Data, is the team that generates the most. And today, they didn’t generate as much. Normally, there would have been more goals, but this is football; the mistakes we made, we managed to correct them, and that’s thanks to the team spirit.”

Outstanding performance from the number ‘10’

“It was Larrubia’s best game. Eliminating opponents, from a standstill, that’s the hardest part. And David did it against the team that puts in the most high-intensity efforts. When you raise that level, you take a step forward.”

Next match is crucial

“We have to think about Granada. At the end of the year, we had 30 points. Let’s be realistic. It’s an important step, but there’s still a long way to go. We’re suffering, but I believe the team has deserved more. We need to be self-critical, and luck needs to be sought. But today is important to build belief, and a derby is coming, where both teams will be playing for everything.”

We need to improve consistency

“This year, we’ve lacked consistency in terms of points. We haven’t been able to string together two or three consecutive victories. We need to get back to that regularity and secure another win. Nothing is done yet, and now the essential part of football remains. We must continue pushing to achieve our goal.”
