Nerja, ‘Malaguista to the Core’ for the fourth consecutive year
The Axarquía town will take centre stage this Saturday at La Rosaleda, supporting the first team in their match against Granada CF. A synergy that brings the Club and the province together to cheer on the team at home.
The beautiful coastal town of Nerja will once again make its presence felt at La Rosaleda Stadium, marking the fourth time it takes part in the 'Malaguista to the Core' initiative. Nerja will be supporting Málaga CF in the Andalusian rivalry match against Granada CF, part of LALIGA HYPERMOTION matchday 38, taking place this Saturday 3rd May at 18:30.
A large number of Nerja locals will attend the game wearing their Málaga CF jerseys to cheer on the team. The stadium’s video scoreboards will display a promotional spot for Nerja, young children will accompany the players onto the field as part of the ‘Escort Kids’ experience, and representatives from the town will be present in the stadium's VIP box.
A unique place
Bathed by the Mediterranean Sea, Nerja stands as one of the most iconic towns on the eastern Costa del Sol. Famous for its beaches, cliffs, and above all, the stunning Nerja Caves, this destination blends history, nature, and tradition in a privileged setting. Located in the eastern part of Málaga province, Nerja has long been a haven for artists, travellers, and sea lovers alike.
Its roots trace back to prehistoric times, as evidenced by the cave paintings found in the Nerja Caves, considered among the oldest examples of art in Europe. During the Muslim era, the town was known as Narixa, meaning “abundant spring,” a name whose legacy lives on in the layout of its streets and the bright white façades of its houses. Today, the Balcón de Europa stands as the town’s emblem: a seafront viewpoint that bridges its touristic present with its historic identity.
Strolling through Nerja is like discovering a world between the mountains and the sea. The cobbled streets of the old town, the Church of El Salvador with its Baroque and Mudejar style, and the Águila Aqueduct with its 38 brick arches are must-see landmarks for every visitor. And of course, the Nerja Caves, with their chambers of stalactites, underground concerts, and archaeological heritage, form the cultural and natural heart of the town.
When it comes to gastronomy, Nerja offers the best of both sea and land. Grilled sardine skewers (espetos) served right on the beach, refreshing ajoblanco (a cold almond and garlic soup), and hearty fennel stew reflect the town’s deep-rooted fishing and farming traditions. Events like the October Fair, Holy Week, and the International Festival of Music and Dance held in the Nerja Caves showcase how culture flows through generations in this vibrant community.
Nerja, La Rosaleda is your home! We’re waiting for you!
