Natxo González: “When you compete it’s hard when you don't reap the rewards”

The Malaguista coach spoke out following the match against UD Almería. “It’s a shame about the result, but I’m proud,” he said.

Natxo González held a press conference after #MálagaAlmería.

Firstly, he reviewed the match, which he says was “very even,” and he’s “pleased” with the team’s performance. He added that Almería have “great quality.” Talking about the goal, he stated: “The mistake in defence needs improvement, but I would highlight the talent between Portillo and Sadiq.” He went on to say: “We competed until the end. In the final stages we approached the area with little success. We competed, we were very good in defence, yet we have weaknesses on the attack, but we’re working on it. It’s a shame about the result, but I’m proud. When you compete it’s hard when you don't reap the rewards, but I’ve no doubt that this is the way forward.”

After seeing the Malaguistas’ gameplay, the coach said there’s “room for improvement.” He added: “If we’d have drawn it wouldn’t have been unfair. I congratulated the players, as it comes from my heart. We’re not going home happy, we’re annoyed as we lost. But I have to balance everything and there were things I liked a lot against a rival like Almería.”

Lastly, he talks about his first match at La Rosaleda at the helm of the Blue and Whites: “I’m happy to have experienced it. It would have been better if we’d have won. I thank the fans, they’re fantastic. They will have gone home angry with the result, but they saw the team fought and gave their all for this jersey. However, we have to take a big step forward.”
