Natxo González is pleased with the victory and how it was achieved. “I remain with how we got the win. We had the match under control at all times, taking the lead, but this is a team that takes the ball to your area quickly and there’s always uncertainty,” he stated. He reviewed the match: “We were very good in defence. We’re improving on the attack. We could have gone to 0-3 and be a little calmer in the final minutes, but we’re having to suffer. I’d like to congratulate the players, they deserve it, and to our amazing fans whom I hope we made smile a little.”
Until today, the Malaguista coach had claimed to see progress in the team, despite not getting results. He wanted to make the most of the occasion to highlight his message: “It’s difficult to defend the team if the results aren’t there. Amongst us we know that we are taking steps towards what we want. Every week it’s confirmed. Today is a reward for that work. These boys deserve it after working so hard all week and following last week’s result.”
In relation to the starting-11, Natxo stressed the importance of the idea above the line-up. “Circumstances don't make me go back on my decisions. Regardless of the scheme, the important thing is the idea. We knew that Amorebieta takes the ball close to the area. They’re very powerful there, with many set pieces. We wanted to balance that out, maintaining two forwards to have depth,” commented the coach from Vitoria.
By taking control of the team midway through the competition, his approach has been to play a ‘17-match league’ and perform well. “There is always talk of qualifying, whether you lose or whether you win… This game is a reward for the daily work, which week after week has not translated into a positive result, but which brought us closer and closer to it,” he insisted.
Staying away from individual assessments, he wanted to give “a 10 for everyone. For the effort and for how we have competed. The way to achieve the result is very important. From minute 0 to 105, I’m delighted with everything that has happened and to see that the day-to-day work is being consolidated,” he continued to the media.
Lastly, the coach talked about enjoying the moment and picking up the work from tomorrow. “This has to be a turning point. We’ll try our best to make that happen. Now we need to enjoy this win although we haven't done anything. This continues, and we’ve broken that lengthy dynamic,” Natxo added.
