“My job is to resolve financial crises in the business world”

Málaga Club de Fútbol’s judicial administrator, José María Muñoz highlighted the progress made internally with a reinforced structure and thanked the Entity's sponsors for their fervent support.

Muñoz believes the Club “works perfectly. I am not a specialist in football or a specialist in numbers. I’m here because I have experience in resolving financial crises in the business world,” he stated, making it clear that “I am not going to say if I know about football, but I know what I have come here for and that has been fulfilled”, referring to examples in Spanish professional football in which the vast majority of the club's top leaders are businesspeople, lawyers or those who don’t specialise in football.”

During his press conference, he highlighted how he came to be in his current role. “When I arrived at Málaga I didn’t know anyone, I came with the police as I didn’t know where I was. I don't know anyone from Málaga, and I got to work with each one of them. An ERE was undertaken, a viability plan was formed, and the Club was restructured.” He continued: “When I came to the Club there was no Compliance,” highlighting the progress made with the consolidation of an Equality Plan, the work on the internal personnel selection processes and the reinforcement in the Club's departments in terms of brand image and marketing. “We are all salespeople,” he added, emphasising the effort made by the various departments.

“There’s no directive here, the Club was restructured with heads of department,” said Muñoz, who was clear about the fact that he makes the decisions under the protection of the judge who ruled the judicial administration in MCF. “We considered starting with José Antonio Ruiz Guerra and there were people who wanted to get paid to participate. People from Málaga have offered themselves, paid and with experience,” in reference to the Entity's advisory board. “Málaga CF is what it is in Málaga province, we have a lot of events and for that Paco Martín Aguilar and José Antonio (Ruiz Guerra) help me. They give us advice, they are always at our disposal, and they do it altruistically,” remarked José María, who specified that both Aguilar and Guerra are not part of the day-to-day activities of the Club in terms of decision-making.

The judicial administrator wanted to thank the support of companies such as Tesesa or institutions such as the City Hall and Diputación, key to providing Málaga CF with greater financial muscle. “The sponsors want to be here. What Pepe (José Hernández) from Tesesa did was incredible, with the sponsorship on the front of the shirt. Then Francis Salado appeared, who increased the value of the jersey for us. And then the support of the City Hall with the sponsorship of 1.5 million (Euros) plus IVA was essential. Málaga has to be in the First Division, and everyone has to do their bit,” he concluded.
