Muñoz speaks to the media in a press conference

For over half an hour, José María Muñoz answered each and every question posed by the media in the ‘Juan Cortés’ press room at La Rosaleda.

AFE and ERE in regard to the team

“The only request I received from AFE is to withdraw the ERE. Should I withdraw the ERE, with the current squad and with no transfers, Málaga would possibly be bankrupt by October and in certain liquidation by November. Once in liquidation, if all of the creditors are not satisfied, Málaga would be dissolved”.

5th October, key date

“We have faith. Should there be no agreement between the parties, that particular negotiation table would be closed, and it is the Club that decides when to carry out the dismissal of each of the workers. This isn’t good for anyone. We’re working so that Sergio Pellicer has the best squad possible with 5th October as the deadline date”.

Complaints filed for debts to players

“In the end there have only been four – complaints filed – in one an agreement was previously reached, another was paid and we had to pay two. Manolo Gaspar began a round of contacts after the match against Almería to attempt to postpone the debt; approximately 10 – players - said yes (for the debt to be postponed). I must emphasise Adrián’s commitment, maintained according to the timetable we agreed with him. Adrián and Munir are the ones who requested the voluntary dismissal”.

Keidi Bare and Luis Muñoz

“Keidi is a first team player and we’re going to register him. There are rumours that there’s the possibility of a sale, but nothing is concrete. It’s important to register him. There’s a high probability that Luis Muñoz will stay and we’re continuing negotiations”.

Current squad

“We have to suppose that all the players leave. We can’t sign over two million euros. This is the squad that Málaga will have this season. If not, it would mean that we’d be unable to make payments and next year we’d be in Segunda B. If a change is made it would be for all the clubs. We have been sanctioned, and there will not be any changes unless COVID permits”.

BlueBay

“Nobody has approached me, neither from BlueBay nor anyone involved to offer a loan for Málaga. If that is the case, may they present a document in writing today or tomorrow to the court number 14, indicating they are willing to provide a loan, let us suppose of 10 million euros at a certain interest rate, with the conditions they deem appropriate. It’s that simple. Nobody has offered me anything and that 10 million would come in very handy”.

Increase in capital

“This has to go via a shareholders’ meeting. At present it’s not possible, but it may be in October. Unless we have a refund of around seven million euros, that the Al Thani family owes the Club, it will be necessary to do so. If I have the capacity to this I will, as it’s my responsibility”.

Investors and personal situation

“Anybody who wishes to see me, my door is always open. I’ve met people and they’ve asked me about the procedural situation. Many are confused as to whether we’re in bankruptcy proceedings and if Málaga can be sold. I cannot sell the shares of any shareholder. In certain cases, I’ve been asked for financial information regarding Málaga and I then refer them to the Málaga website. I explain the instruction procedure and the shares to them, they listen intently to me, some leave happy and even say that they have the ideal contact with me to purchase Málaga, yet it isn’t the case. It’s also been said that I’m vying to be director general, that is false, malicious and petty. I have no interest in that role. My professional life before arriving at Málaga was great, with a superb team that works long hours and I am delighted with them”.
