Economic figures in detail

During his press conference, the Club’s judicial administrator José María Muñoz, detailed all the financial data to adjust to the figures required by LaLiga.

He divided his explanation into three sections: the Treasury situation, the Treasury status and the salary cap.

Treasury Situation

“In June or at the end of May, Málaga was unable to meet its payments. That is why the sale of Antoñín was necessary and it was carried out. In addition, since February or March, we have begun a restructuring of the Club (the Athletics Stadium, the sheikh's house…), eradicating superfluous expenses, with a policy of total austerity. It’s a necessary step, there’s no liquidity at the moment. With this sale and a series of negotiations with suppliers and creditors, Málaga had a surplus in June”.

Treasury Status

“The net debt has decreased, and the working capital has improved, but there is the issue of the money owed to the Club by the Al Thani family, around seven million. If we do not collect that amount in the near term, Málaga CF will start to have serious problems. The credit, 80%, is due, liquid and payable. With that 7 million, the debt would be negative.

"In terms of profit and loss, to summarise, it’s the income received minus expenses. We’re approximately at a loss of three million as at 31st August, as we lost sponsorships and still haven’t sold any season tickets. We have some sponsors and the audio-visual rights at the moment, but no other money is coming in.

“Málaga finished last season more than 12 million from the salary cap. This means we have been sanctioned by LaLiga. We were not administratively relegated to Segunda B, because in the statutes (art. 55.17.1.6), in the season that we were about to register, we have spent three years out of five in the First Division and it therefore does not apply to us. Subsequently, LaLiga put this article on hold in July, but it will be in effect again in a few months. If we do not seriously tackle the deviation from the salary cap, Málaga will be in Segunda B next year, whatever happens.

“As a registered team, La Liga gives us €3,098,500. As a non-registered team, we get €572,500. Before taking any steps, we were at €12,769,000 and €2,131,322. We again exceeded the limit and if we don’t change it, next year we’ll be in Segunda B, as there’s no intention to change those statutes”.

Salary cap

“There are three ways to expand it:

  1. New sponsorship/advertising contracts. The value on the shirt has gone from €900,000 in 19/20 to €1,015,000 this season, €115,000 more.
  2. Transfer of registerable team players.
  3. Increase in capital, as it doesn’t compute if the Club shareholder has loans with the Club, as is happening with Málaga CF at the moment.

“No loan would improve the salary limit, we would still be sanctioned by LaLiga”.
