Míchel: “We need to feel like the favourites on the pitch”

In the lead-up to the clash with Leganés, the coach affirms “we need to speak well of my team for five minutes and say that tomorrow is the day”.

Borja and Ricca not ready for the match

“In the case of Borja and Ricca, we’ve been without them since the beginning of the week, they’ve been in training for two days, which is what we always do. We’ve got a lot of matches ahead of us, we don’t want to lose anyone, but we’ve not forced the issue so much to see what condition they may arrive in. Tomorrow we need 18 players at their peak”.

Return of Ontiveros

“In the case of Ontiveros, he’s a good player. More than a player of great projection, he’s a top-level player and is in the line-up because he’s a great footballer. Another thing is when he’s not in the line-up and not training with us, but that’s a situation he has to resolve. What interests us is that he resolves football-related issues, and when we see him in training like we have this week, we see he’s doing well. In addition, I’ve never had any doubts about Ontiveros at all, however another thing is if Ontiveros doubts himself”.

Extreme situations

“Given the start of the season, it’s certainly true that we’re heading for many extreme situations, tomorrow will be one, and also when we were 1-3 down against Athletic with 10 men. These moments are about the players, not focusing so much on the line-up, although the coach can get it wrong, in regard to how we play…However, I think it’s about what happens at that moment, on impulse, which is what we’re clear about”.

League break

“We make the most of the League breaks to organise ourselves more, but above all, for the players to feel secure. If it were about evaluating training sessions, we are at an optimum time, I believe my team is doing well, and we are determined that enough is enough. There’s nothing else to do other than start to get stronger, as if not, the distances in LaLiga will widen further”.

Rival

“They aren’t the same Leganés from last season. They are a stronger team, less fearful, and with experience in the First Division which has previously seen them in the difficult position of playing near the relegation zone. They are a very together team, I see them at a good level, hence their position in the rankings. Logically, it’s not going to be a match in which we will feel like favourites over the rival, but we need to feel like the favourites and show it on the pitch. We can talk about Leganés and how this is a good time for them, but we need to speak well of my team for five minutes and say that tomorrow is the day”.

Husillos, new sports director

“We already knew each other. I think he’s been quite firm and forceful, in the same way as the previous sports manager, and trusts in our work. He told me that in the middle of the ocean it’s more difficult to reach the port if we make holes in the boat, and that we have to arrive with the same sailors, and amongst these sailors, here I am”.
