Míchel: “We can’t sugar-coat the situation”

The Malaguista coach analyses #NumanciaMálaga in the press room at Los Pajaritos: “I’m annoyed, but I will never be demoralised”.

Lack of forcefulness

“I saw it as we all saw it. It’s incredible, we can’t sugar-coat the situation. Being so in need of results, we cannot give away those last 10 minutes, allowing the rival to play more. Every time we crossed the centre line, we were incapable of creating three straight passes, this is very difficult to control as it’s a way of defending as well. I think we lacked forcefulness and the ability to take the ball to the last line. We let many things escape, particularly in the last five minutes when we allowed a corner and a free kick, from a set piece, to concede two goals when we had the match all sewn up. It’s clear that we want to complicate our lives a lot”.

Need to win

“There’s no use for the coach to be affected. I think certain players have to really think about the situation. It’s not about having chances in Cup matches, it’s about the need to win, and if we take the lead, we can’t allow what happened here to occur again. Not even with the good gameplay and the push from Numancia, these are situations we need to resolve ourselves. It wasn’t a good match, it was a very disputed match as there was immense pressure in midfield and it was tough to play, but there are situations that are resolved from the knowledge of the game. When you are a professional, you have to understand the necessity we have”.

Attitude

“I don’t know if it’s attitude or if some players are nervous or lacking in quality. We see them dressed as First Division players and it seems they are, but we must undoubtedly demand our players to give much more. Personally, I don’t have any justification, not even my job. If there are difficult situations, the one at the helm and who will face it all is me. What I have to say I will say to them”.

Feelings

“I’m annoyed. My future has no importance, I always look forward to what’s ahead, but in the end, you need to see different situations. I will never be demoralised. Angry, yes because there are situations that escape the coach. Let’s not talk about the quality of the players when we were 0-1 up in minute 92. Let’s not talk about that. Let’s talk about when you dress as a footballer, you need to understand what that means. This gets lost in other questions, but here it’s the coach’s responsibility as he doesn’t know how to instil this into the players. I’m not going to stop until I do”.
