Míchel: “To win you have to play like this”

The Málaga CF coach held a press conference to analyse the draw against Athletic Club: “The players gave a demonstration of absolute pride”.

Fight

“The team that doesn’t go out for a draw, does not mean that the tie, in these circumstances, seems more than deserved. I’m not going to say deserved as, at the end of the day, a lot of things happened, nearly all of which were against us. Circumstances have gone against us, and the play in favour. I wish to thank the players and congratulate them as they gave a demonstration of absolute pride, and to know that they’re not giving up, far from it”.

#MálagaAthletic analysis

“Many things happened. It’s true that we made mistakes, I’m the first one to say it, but every time we have a minimal distraction or make an error, it leads to conceding a goal. Today, in minute 2 we were losing by 0-1 and nothing had happened. Many things occurred, however the team restored and continued to insist. If the point is the demonstration of how my players are at the time of commitment and wanting to move forward, I know that one point doesn’t fix anything. Although it fixes the hearts of those who know that the lads are working hard and a great deal, and I’m thrilled for them. They played very well for a long time with 10 men, against a rival who were two goals up. Even when we were 11 against 11, we played a very good first half. You can ask a victory of us, but in order to win you have to play like this”.

Team’s reaction

“The reaction comes because the boys will never let themselves get down. We made changes, altered tactical situations and the players adapted quickly because that’s what we train to do”.

Diego Rolan

“Diego performed very well. He scored two goals and knew how to interpret the game on the two wings. When we had to play with two men upfront, whilst at a numerical disadvantage, he also played well. Good players who focus and keep their head down adapt quickly, which is what Rolan will bring to the team this season. The two goals magnify his performance, and that of the team. Diego, as we all know, is a top-level player”.

Fans

“Look how our fans were throughout the game?!  We were 0-1 down, the situation wasn’t to be applauded, but they spurred the team on. The players are aware when they’re being pushed by fans, which allows us to get closer to situations like this. Often you don’t know whether the players are pushing the fans or the fans are pushing the players, but it’s true that if they don’t give up, then neither will we, whatever happens”.
