Míchel: “It’s put the brakes on, but it’s not definitive”

The Málaga CF coach held a press conference following #MálagaRealBetis: “We’ll hold on to our hard work and continue to seek sensations”.

Match analysis

“I believe we entered the match well and created dangerous situations, but as usual we didn’t make the most of them. It’s a real struggle for us to materialise on what we do. When we made the change we were losing, we needed a revulsive and more presence on the attack. Unfortunately, we didn’t have it. We lost the sensation of danger and became pretty hesitant. We weren’t in the game. I wasn’t expecting a match like this”.

Seek solutions

“The coach has had so many similar situations throughout the season that he holds on to hard work and continues to seek sensations, like the ones we had before the game. If not, there would be nothing to hold on to. It was a similar situation to ones we had several times during the season. I didn’t expect the sensation we conveyed after conceding the first goal”.

Adrián and Rosales

“Adrián has a small muscular injury. We assume it will also be the fifth card. There was a misunderstanding between the referee, who believed he was an assistant. In any case, he has a small break. We’re also going to lose Rosales. This isn’t good news as they are two important players”.

Brake

“Recently we’ve shown very small, but firm steps forward. The result the other day gave us a much greater boost, but we stayed calm as we knew it was a situation like we’ve found ourselves in all year. It wasn’t going to be normal to enjoy a situation like today and go on to win the game, to show rivals that we’re here. It’s put the brakes on, but it’s not definitive. We must continue. We’ve been in much worse positions, but have been proving ourselves more, little by little. We’re not hiding away”.

Opportunity

“The team has conditions, which they’ve shown. What we do know is that in order for these conditions to occur, and to bring a result, we need to be at 100 per cent, or at times much more. A team such as ourselves cannot afford to concede a goal from a rival’s first shot at the target. From then on, we gave away much more ground and lost the possibility to continue our approach. I think that everything we did on the attack, at least during the first half an hour, we needed to have something more. I’m not demoralised. We’ve been in worse situations. It’s important to know that we can’t have nights like this. If you insist on this type of circumstance, it’s not easy to get up from”.

#AlavésMálaga

“We thought that Alavés would be a crucial game, but we also thought we’d arrive there with more points. The players are like me, disappointed, as we didn’t expect such little fight like we gave today. We should have been more stable, as we’ve been in recent games. I think today, since the rival scored the first goal, we weren’t in the match at all. We weren’t able to resolve anything at half-time, because we conceded another in the second half”.

Schedule

“I don’t know whether it’s best to stay quiet or not. What is clear is that there’s no sensitivity towards us. We are one of the teams that plays the most Mondays and Fridays. I don’t understand why the team we’re up against has two days more rest than us”.
