Míchel: “It’s not enough, we were focused on winning”

The coach attended to the media in the press room following the #MálagaLevante draw. “I think the team deserved to win, although this is the reality”.

Opportunities and gameplay

“Generally speaking, I believe we were much better. We proposed all the attacking actions, with more or less accuracy. We had the occasions, until that save by Roberto. In the first half there were many interruptions in our attacking gameplay because of the numerous fouls. The team was competing well, within our qualities and conditions. As time went on with no goals, the anxiety kicked in. It’s true that Roberto was in his place, but I think the team deserved to win, although this is the reality”.

Approach

“It’s not enough, we were focused on winning. We planned the match to win. The three substitutions were to enable us to seek attacking solutions, to take a step forward, which we had already done. We lacked definition, at times on the last pass, at times with calm. We were counting on having another two points now”.

Success in front of goal

“I don’t think it was such a bad match. Of course, we lacked a goal, and a goal changes everything. We created many dangerous situations in the first half, and at the beginning of the second, shots from Recio and Diego González didn’t find the goal, which is why we’ve got eight points. Although it’s a lot on our shoulders, I don’t see the team the same as at the start of the season”.

Clean sheet

“This is good news. It’s something we fought for. As soon as we would go wrong, our goalkeeper had to stay on his toes. It’s not ideal, we thought we’d have 10 points, which I think the attitude of the players and approach of the game was centred around”.

Seek solutions

“The ‘accounts’ are of little purpose. Today I was counting on having another two points. We need to continue to find solutions and try by any means necessary. The only answer is for our players to keep working hard like this, and believing in what we’re doing. It’s not a time to talk numbers”.
