Míchel: “It’s a difficult situation to explain”

The Malaguista coach analyses the defeat by Getafe in a press conference: “We always want to turn the situation around, but the situation doesn’t turn around”.

Difficult situation to explain

“The results are so poor that we don’t have any justification. The fans are suffering, logically for them it’s an incomprehensible situation. However, my players are also suffering immensely, they’re very hurt and incredibly sensitive, as this is a situation which some of them have never experienced before. We’re extremely annoyed, we always want to turn the situation around, but the situation doesn’t turn around. It’s tremendously difficult to explain to everyone, including our fans of course”.

Disgruntled squad

“Many of the players are dismayed, some of them are really suffering because of the position we’re in, as it’s exceptionally delicate week after week. The good I can say about the players is they do what they can. They compete, but also we’ve seen that any inattention from them results in a massive blow for us, and there have been far too many”.

Keep working

“What we do is work, encourage the players and try to stay on top of every detail so things like we’ve seen today don’t happen. We’ve given an incredible amount of attention to the set piece, as we’re pretty methodical in those for and against, but the only thing we can do is continue working. Yesterday I think we prepared for this match quite well, we were somewhat excited despite the situation we’re in, but the only thing a coach can do is continue to work. In addition, naturally, you mustn’t let the players become discouraged. They respond to what we ask of them, which we’re thankful for on our part as it’s such a delicate situation”.

New signings

“The players joining us are giving a sense of improvement, but we’re a long way away from what we want. During this time players will be arriving, but we’re very much against the clock. Not only for the players, although they are doing well, adapting quickly and getting results, but those that are coming here (Iturra, Ignasi, Bueno) are showing signs they can bring a leap in quality and competitive condition to the team, but we’re in such a hurry that we don’t have time”.
