Manolo Gaspar: “I’m very happy with the transfer market”

The Club’s sports director held a press conference to review the transfer window. “There have been 32 operations; we have a very balanced squad”, he stated.

Review

“There have been a total of 32 operations which, under normal circumstances, would take any club four or five transfer markets. We have had to practically construct a new team. There were 14 signings, seven renewals, four sales, one loan, six departures and eight players who left via the ERE, which I don’t count as operations, as they went through that process”.

Salary limit

“There was 2.1 million at the start and 2.2 at the end, we were counting the registrable and non-registrable players. In terms of salary, we have a very balanced squad, without any ups and downs, very balanced”.

Registered players

“We have 18, but for me it’s a squad of 40 players, as we have strong, eager players who are showing their potential. In time, they will be important within Málaga”.

“We have a very balanced squad, with highly versatile players, young people, with an average age of 26, a mixture of young and more experienced players, those who know the category and speak the same language, which in situations like this is very important”.

Satisfaction

“I am very happy with the team, for each of the positions we are well compensated. I don't know if we could have done anything else, but it’s tough not being able to register more players. If we could have done that, under these conditions, we may have had an almost perfect transfer market”.

More complicated operation

“In terms of timing, Luis Muñoz, as we wanted him to be a key part of this project, an important player from Málaga. They were all very difficult, including the latest one, Joaquín Muñoz, who we tried to incorporate in December, but it wasn’t to be”.

Juande

“It was part of the strategy we had, the finance-sport puzzle. We stayed calm, it was a question of time. He had to have a professional registration, and that’s what happened”.

Transparency

“I’ve always been very upfront, not just with José Rodríguez, with all the players. I said that all the players who came here would be registered, and they were. The timings of José Rodríguez and those of Málaga were completely different”.

Players and ERE

“When the time came, Adrián and Lombán were the only ones where there were possibilities of reaching an agreement”.

Attraction

“All the incorporations were willing to come here from the outset, rejecting higher offers”.

Objectives

“José María Muñoz told me there were two clear objectives, but one was super clear. First, save the company, Málaga the Entity; then later, save the category. That’s what we were focused on, and we’re on the right track. Our aim is to save the category, let’s not forget, even if we win three matches on the bounce. Everyone knows what our reality is”.
