Málaga CF matches record number of points from League first round

Málaga Club de Fútbol ends the first round by equalling the historic number of points achieved by the Martiricos Club in the first 19 League games of the season. Let’s take a look at Málaga CF’s record-breaking achievement:

Squad
The Málaga CF dressing room has always been an example of the highest level of commitment and unity.  One of Javi Gracia’s concerns is that the work of the entire team is recognised, giving importance to members of the team who may not play as much as others, but help the overall skill level of the squad.

Málaga CF has achieved this record thanks to a solid defence, becoming the seventh team in the League to concede the fewest goals (20), and a mobile attacking display in which everyone takes part, as nine players have scored this season’s 22 BBVA League goals so far.

The team is very balanced, with veterans, experienced players, international players, up and coming players, humble and hard-working players, those born in Málaga and others having come up from La Academia - making their identification with the fans even stronger.

Record to Record
Of the 31 points scored so far this season, 13 have been away from La Rosaleda, following four wins, one draw and four defeats.  The highest number of away wins this first round is another record Málaga CF has achieved under Javi Gracia, as they compete well in both home and away matches, racking up yet another Club record, with five consecutive wins.

Fans
This success is also down to the ‘Malaguista’ fans, who convert La Rosaleda into a fortress, with Málaga CF scoring 18 out of a possible 27 points, only losing to Real Madrid and UD Almería.  As always, the fans have shown immense support in victory and convey strength to the players to turn matches around.  Another record this season is for five consecutive games the ‘no more tickets’ sign was displayed at the stadium.

Club
The squad, the fans and the management are the three pillars of any sporting entity.  The hard work undertaken by everyone in the Martiricos offices has been a key part in the Club’s notable development following a period of transition.  This year the Club made an important sporting investment, guaranteeing the continuity of promising talent from La Academia, and ensuring a reliable long-term project.  Complying with Financial Fair Play regulations, the exemplary management at all levels is building today’s Málaga CF, but also a very bright future.

Record-Breaker
Up to now Málaga CF has only achieved 31 points at the end of the first round on two previous occasions: Antonio Tapa’s men in 2008/09, and Manuel Pellegrini’s Champions League Málaga CF, in 2012/13.
