Javi Guerra: “I’m pleased I made my debut but it’s bittersweet”

Another protagonist from tonight’s match, as well as Duda, was Javi Guerra who made his Málaga CF debut: “Every player wants to achieve a positive result in their debut game. I’m pleased I made my debut but it’s bittersweet as I didn’t score.”

The Málaga-born striker explains his first minutes of play and his position on the pitch in the second half: “Nordin and I were upfront, and then I moved further up the field.  We tried our best to equalise in the second half, but didn’t generate any clear goal chances.  Sevilla are such a tough rival at home, but we need to now focus on correcting our mistakes and look to Wednesday’s game with all the enthusiasm in the world.”

The striker also talks about how quickly he has adapted to the team: “I needed to be prepared for whenever the coach needs me, and I’m pleased I was given a chance to play tonight.  I’m still lacking somewhat and need to keep working hard to improve my physical fitness.  From my first day here with the group I’ve felt at home.  It’s been very east to adapt.”

Finally, Javi Guerra comments on the team’s first round success: “The team has had an amazing first round of competition and now we need to work hard in every match as if it were the last.”
