Lombán: “I’ll always put the collective over the individual”

The new Blue and Whites’ defender was presented today at La Rosaleda. “I was looking for a project that would excite me and Málaga had it all”, he said during his presentation.

Accompanied by the Club’s sports management, Juan Rodríguez, David Lombán appeared before the media wearing the number ‘18’ shirt that he’ll be in for the next two seasons.

Arrival at Málaga CF

“Everything happened very quickly, both parties wanted to finalise things and I’m happy to be at this great Club (…) It’s been a long summer, but at last I’ve arrived at Málaga CF. I’ve had some very good references about this Club, and Charles – former MCF player – said some wonderful things about it. I also have a great relationship with Adrián, who told me not to think twice as I’d enjoy the great heritage of the Club and the fans. When the opportunity arose, I had no doubts and wanted to come here”.

Exciting project

“I was looking for a project that would excite me, also in the long-term. It’s a wonderful challenge, the references I had were positive; Málaga has always been a Club I’ve liked and defending this shirt motivated me. I move for motivations and Málaga had it all (…) My contract had ended, I was a free player and I considered waiting until the arrival of a club that conveyed excitement, and I had heard some great things about Málaga”.

Second Division

“I have experience in the Second Division and those of us who know this category know that you can’t live beyond the present. You need to have humility, which the team has, and if we believe this will be easy, we’re wrong. Everything that is required in Second Division is happening now, it’s being fulfilled perfectly, and we must stay humble (…) I’m adapting well, everyone’s making it easy for me, both the Club and the players. From outside you see hard work and unity, that’s what we need to maintain this year”.

Collective and individual

“I’ve come to contribute as much as I can within the dressing room, always putting the collective over the individual. In order to achieve the objectives set by the Club, the important thing is the group (…) I’m at the disposal of the Club and the team, I’ll play in the position required to provide performance and bring something to the team. The coach will make the decisions, I’m a member of the squad and will work hard for him to have more possibilities”.

Malaguista fans

“This Club has an atmosphere of the First Division. A great Club for playing at home, and as visitors, the times I’ve played here you went away with the feeling it was spectacular. The fans come to support their team, they are loyal to the Club which is important to us”.
