Logroño, kilometre 29

Málaga kicked off the final third of the competition by taking an important step forward in their LaLiga SmartBank marathon. The win at Las Gaunas gives the team 40 points.

There were many positives from the 0-1 #LogroñésMálaga win that we look at here:

Textbook Yanis

In football today, strategy goals have gained such prominence. Manolo Sánchez, Pellicer’s right-hand man, carefully sets out the game plan. In Logroño, the Malaguista goal stemmed from a textbook corner kick. The corner, extension to the near post (Caye) and finished by Yanis at the far post. Impeccable. Rahmani now matches league ‘pichichis’ Juande, Chavarría and Luis Muñoz with four goals.

The seventh, and in yellow

Málaga continue to shine away from La Rosaleda. In terms of gameplay and results. The lads achieved their seventh win away from home this season in La Rioja, and did so wearing the yellow jersey, which is almost always synonymous with victory. Only Mallorca (31) and Almería (25) have obtained more away points than MCF, the Top 3 of the competition in this regard, alongside Espanyol with 23 points.

Clean sheet

Pellicer has done something that, in the beginning, was very tough - having two goalkeepers raring to go and performing well, Dani Barrio and Juan Soriano. Málaga have accumulated two consecutive wins, both with a clean sheet. In total, there have been 11 games without conceding a goal. It’s not just a question of Dani and Juan, but the strong defence trio made up of Juande, Mejías and Escassi, the latter standing out as a true anchor in defence.

40 points

The number speaks for itself after 29 matches. The initial objective of reaching 50 points is getting ever closer. Ninth in the table, six points from the playoff positions set by Rayo Vallecano, and +11 from the drop zone. Incontestable, irrefutable and indisputable numbers that show a clear reality. The superb sporting health of Pellicer’s Málaga.

Loren’s debut

The young 18-year-old striker who started out with the Benjamines in The Academy played his first minutes with the first team in an official match. He is the first player whose father, Loren Zúñiga, also played for Málaga CF. Loren is player number 388 to wear the MCF jersey, whilst his dad was number 58 to do so.
