The team returned to winning ways on Saturday (1-0) in front of the fans at La Rosaleda, to accumulate five points from the last three matches. With this win, and keeping a clean sheet, safety is just three points away.
Crucial win
Only a win would do. That’s what Pepe Mel said following #MálagaPonferradina. Deportiva, the rival marking the safety zone, arrived at Martiricos six points ahead of the Blue and Whites, yet after this victory, safety looks a lot closer with just one match won.
Four points in a week
The matches against Real Zaragoza and SD Ponferradina, the two rivals that Málaga CF had at a distance of two games, ended with a highly respectable draw at La Romareda with 10 men (1-1), and a victory that little by little showed the light at the end of the tunnel.
Three matches on the bounce scoring points
Five points out of the last three league games. The draw with Real Sporting (1-1) and the aforementioned results in Zaragoza and at home this weekend shows the team's improvement in this stretch of competition.
Clean sheet
The Malaguistas showed a solid defence throughout the game, obtaining the reward of not conceding a goal. This is the third time of keeping a clean sheet this season, the previous times were in Santander and against Andorra at La Rosaleda.
Luck
The good luck factor, which so often has been elusive this season, went in the Blue and Whites’ favour on this occasion. The match featured a disallowed goal for the rival and a missed penalty in the first half, which was resolved by an own goal by ex-Malaguista Erik Moran.
‘Yes, we can’
The Malaguista fans, always cheering on the players, sang this chant of encouragement in the closing stages of the match. There’s still a lot of work to be done during the season, and turning La Rosaleda into a fortress will be key to achieving the goal.
