José González: “We want this derby to be the starting point”

The Blue and Whites’ coach held a press conference earlier today in the press room at La Rosaleda: “We’re very close to winning in many matches” he says in the run-up to #MálagaSevilla.

Close to victory

“There may be a last-minute crisis for a team who is having a long season, but as it stands there seem to be four teams there. Yesterday’s results have kept us alive. We are still hopeful that if the team achieves victory we can change this dynamic, as we all believe we’re very close to winning in many matches. Tomorrow will be a special game, a derby, and we want this to be the starting point”.

Exemplary fans

“The fans’ support is amazing, truly amazing. The other day we showed them a glimmer of light, and it was nice to see in the second half. We have wonderful examples, such as the young blind fan who travels from Ronda to the stadium… that in itself means a great deal to any player. There are many situations and feelings that I perceive every day, every week. This has to provide that boost of energy the players need to grow as footballers, to continue in the First Division as professionals, but also for these colours and the fans who constantly show their support”.

Sevilla FC, major rival

“Sevilla play a lot and are full of confidence with the ball. They have some top-quality players, a huge budget, a big team… Based on continuity and success, they are one of Spain’s greats. Lots of quality, possession, and with any luck little depth, that’s what we’re hoping for”.
