Going back in time…

On 14th September 1941, La Rosaleda stadium was officially inaugurated. That day, CD Málaga (debuting its name) faced Sevilla FC. The match, refereed by Manolo Ocaña, which ended in a Malaguista victory (3-2), presented the following starting line-ups:

  • CD Málaga: Navés, Chales (c), Montoro, Salazar (Junco), Segura, Mesita, Meri (Tomasín), Díaz, Olivares (Fuentes), Felipe (Rufo) and Domenech.
  • Sevilla FC: Luis, Joaquín (Ricardo), Villalonga, Alconero, Félix, Mateo, Santos, Torrontegui, Campanal (c), Raimundo and Berrocal.

The goals were scored as follows:

0-1: Torrontegui, who took advantage of a false exit by Navés. 1-1: Domenech, with a pass from Rufo. 1-2: Campanal, a great shot following a play by Torrontegui. 2-2: Fuentes, with a powerful shot. 3-2: Díaz with the help of Sevilla’s Villalonga, who scored an own goal.

Coincidentally, Chales and Campanal, captains of both teams, years later would become coaches of CD Málaga.
