José Alberto: “We’re annoyed we didn’t get a win”

The Blue and White coach held a post-match press conference following the tie with Real Zaragoza: “We tried to go for the game at all times.”

José Alberto López held the traditional post-match press conference following the LaLiga SmartBank matchday 10 fixture, in which Málaga CF drew 1-1 with Real Zaragoza.

During the press conference, the coach was asked for an analysis of the match, to which he replied: “It took us a while to get into the game, up until the 15-minute mark. At times the rival made it tough for us to advance, but after the initial quarter of an hour, until the goal, we were doing well. In the second half, until the entrance of Igbekeme, we were good. Then from minute 75 it was more of a struggle. We tried to go for the game at all times, we didn’t want just one point, but it’s the fairest result.”

In regard to the value of the point, the coach was clear: “I leave with the feeling that adding a point in this division is always important. We would have liked to win, the team tried everything. We lacked precision in the final third, finesse in the last pass and we needed a little more accuracy and pause. That’s what we were missing. A lot of the time the match went how we’d planned, but that last pass, the need for more accuracy in the area, which is the most difficult thing in football, is what punished us. This is what stopped us from winning today,” he explained.

The immense effort made by the team was evident, says José Alberto: “We tried to go for the game. We were daring, brave and we sent a message to the team to take a step forward.”

Lastly, the coach talked about the atmosphere at La Rosaleda, which with 15,901 fans saw the biggest crowd so far this season: “The fans are amazing, we’re annoyed we didn’t get a win. There’s a great relationship between fans and teams, which you can see when the players walk on to the pitch. Here it will be very tough for us to miss points with games like we played today or ones we’ve seen before. The lads may be pretty successful in that last pass, in definition, but we have committed players who make the fans enjoy the match. It’s incredible to play at home here in front of the fans,” he concluded.
