José Alberto is our new coach

Málaga Club de Fútbol signs José Alberto López as new first team coach until the end of the 22/23 season.

José Alberto López Menéndez (Oviedo, 1982), a young coach who arrives from CD Mirandés, whose career was cemented at the Mareo School, within Real Sporting de Gijón grassroots football.

In the 16/17 season, he achieved promotion to Segunda B with the Sporting reserve team, with the lads that year scoring the highest number of goals in the Third Division. The following season, Sporting B qualified to the promotion playoffs to LaLiga SmartBank. In 18/19, he moved up from the reserve team to Real Sporting, replacing Rubén Baraja at the helm of the team, and ending the season in 9th place in the silver division. He remained in charge of Sporting until midway through the 19/20 season, and in 20/21 he was appointed in charge of Mirandés, taking them to an excellent 10th place in the Second Division.

Serious, hard-working and counting on the young talents within the youth ranks has characterised the work of José Alberto throughout his professional career. He is close to reaching 100 matches (90) as coach in LaLiga SmartBank, at just 39 years of age.

The new MCF coach arrives accompanied by Pablo Álvarez (second coach) and Pedro García (analyst), linked to the Club with a contract extending to 30 June 2023.

José Alberto, from here on in, your luck will be that of all Malaguistas. Welcome to Málaga! Let’s go!
