Francisco Javier Montero Rubio, born in Sevilla on 14/01/1999, is a strong and decisive defender with international experience and playing time in LALIGA HYPERMOTION. He joins Málaga CF on a free transfer from Racing de Santander and has signed for one season, with an option for another.
After coming through Atlético de Madrid’s youth ranks he played during the 2018/19 season with the youth team, the reserves, and the first team under Diego Pablo Simeone, making a total of 39 appearances that year.
In the 19/20 season, he made 31 appearances for Deportivo de La Coruña in the Second Division. He then continued his career at Besiktas, where he won the Turkish league, cup, and super cup. While with the Turkish side, he was loaned out twice, to Hamburg and Arouca. Last season, he played 25 matches for Racing de Santander under former Málaga coach José Alberto.
Javi Montero joins the Blue and White squad to strengthen the defence and bring his experience and quality.
