Javi Gracia: “We want to extend our moment”

The Blue and Whites’ coach says before heading to Gijón: “We want to extend our moment as much as possible and continue to gain points. We’ll try and improve our position by scoring goals and winning matches, as we still haven’t won an away game.”

Positive atmosphere

“Following a positive result there’s always a fantastic atmosphere and a renewed confidence that we all must make the most of.  We need to work hard and undergo intense training throughout the week, conscious of the importance of the upcoming match.”

Injuries

“The team has certain players out of daily training due to injury, others who re-join the team who aren’t at their best, but there’s no point in complaining about these situations.  We must remain optimistic and positive; we’ve got 19 available players who will ensure we come back with a great result from Gijón.  We hope the others will recover quickly and get back to full match fitness, however right now we’re in a process of certain members of the team being unable to play, so we will always choose our best options.”

The rival

“We’re up against a team who at home haven’t been capable of victory, although they did earn points in a draw against Real Madrid in the first game of the season.  They are a team with a big heart, they identify well with the fans, are demanding of the rival and the supporters really get behind the team.  Sporting are a rival who don’t give anything away, such as the draw with Granada at the last minute thanks to their skills and game play, one of which are long throw-ins and second plays.  They are a young, brave side, greatly supported by the fans.”
