Málaga CF started strong at El Molinón in search of their first victory away from home this season. Following an interchange of possession, after 23 minutes Camacho stated he may be suffering from physical problems, and whilst he was attended to at the side of the pitch, the Blue and Whites suffered a blow whilst they were a man down: Halilovic put the locals in the lead in minute 28, and immediately afterwards, Camacho retired from play and was substituted by Fabio Espinho.
The ‘Malaguistas’ responded and took the reins of play, against an expecting Sporting. Juankar had a good opportunity in the small area that went over the crossbar, whilst Charles narrowly missed out on converting an assist by Recio just before half-time.
The second half kicked off with a good save by Kameni, and the Blue and Whites’ responded with a long shot by Espinho. Juankar had another shot at an equaliser in minute 60 following an impressive collective offering, and a shot by Rosales on the right wing resulted in a high header from the left-back.
Duda’s entrance reactivated midfield, as he showed a strong connection with Fabio Espinho. Together they wove a good combination on the right wing, however didn’t manage to find the net in minute 66. It was on the left wing later in play when Juankar tried his luck, but was deflected by the rival defence. Málaga CF continued to push for an equaliser, and following a great pass from Duda, Charles was unmarked in front of the keeper, however the rival got in front of the Blue and Whites’ striker.
The ‘Malaguistas’ deserved a draw and Javi Gracia made some changes, bringing on Duje Cop in place of winger, Boka.
However a draw wasn’t to be and Sporting could well have increased their lead following two counter attacks with a desperate Málaga CF. The match ended in a 1-0 defeat for the Blue and Whites, who will now need to wait a few weeks in order to try and secure their first away win.
