Málaga CF coach, Javi Gracia held a post-match press conference at El Madrigal tonight: “I’m upset as we missed our opportunity to retain seventh place.”
Gracia blames the absence of a goal for tonight’s defeat: “We worked hard throughout the game and stalked the rival goal area several times, but had few options to score. We weren’t successful in the last pass, we weren’t aggressive enough in front of goal…this lack of goals has been a drawback all season.”
The Navarran-born manager is disappointed “to lose out on seventh place in the penultimate match of the season, as we occupied that spot for the majority of the League campaign.” For Gracia “it’s been a long season for us, now we’re blaming youth and inexperience and not getting the necessary points.”
The Málaga CF coach sends a message of thanks to the fans “for all their support throughout the season,” and adds “the team has achieved a lot of great things which have brought immense enjoyment, so we must remember the season our players have given us,” referring to achieving the objective of permanency with over 10 matches left in play.
The ‘Malaguistas’ are now focused on Saturday’s game against Sevilla: “The fans, the city and the team deserve to end the season in the best way possible, with excitement and intensity.”
