Málaga CF Femenino is now a First Division team after beating CD Femarguín by 0-1 at Campo Municipal de Arguineguín. The goal from María Ruiz makes the Malaguista team the first in these promotion playoffs to secure a pass to the top flight of women’s football in Spain.
The Malaguista squad began dominating possession at the Municipal de Arguineguín ground. The Blue and Whites moved toward Aco’s goal, with Meri narrowly missing out on an opener barely five minutes in. Equality was the tone of the game in which the locals approached Chelsea’s goal area on two occasions, once with Celia and another with Eli. However, the Málaga keeper had no trouble intervening to maintain a clean sheet. Both teams exercised a perfect defence, and Paula tried to pass a ball to Adriana, that ended up in the hands of the Femarguín keeper. After a frantic 45 minutes, the scoreboard remained at 0-0 at half-time.
Things turned around for the Malaguistas in the second half. In 51’, Sheila had the 0-1 at her feet, but the ball escaped over the crossbar. Two minutes later, Meri fired again at the Femarguín goal, but didn’t manage to open the scoring. The rivals began to near Chelsea’s goal, with Celia having the clearest chance for the home side, that was blocked by the Malaguista keeper. It wasn’t until minute 72 when María Ruiz, who came on in place of Sheila, led Málaga CF Femenino to glory. María hooked the ball and, unmarked, fired the ball into the back of the net. The 0-1 lead sent the Malaguista fans in the crowd into a frenzy. María scored the only goal of the game, sending the Blue and Whites into the First Division.
