“I’m going to push my players to keep on going”

The Málaga CF coach analyses #MálagaLeganés in a press conference: “I cannot allow my players to see me discouraged. I’m not, despite the situation”.

Match analysis

“It’s a story that keeps on repeating. I think the team started the game well and did things to go ahead on the scoreboard. Then in the second half, we lost two balls, the rival scored a goal to put us behind, even though it looked offside. There’s no justification, but it’s true that everything that happens goes against us. I don’t believe we have any excuse or justification, but I cannot say otherwise. We do what we can. Nerves and tension are rife among the players. With everything going against our favour, and the sensations of this 0-2 defeat, it’s bad news, as we still only have one point out of a possible 24”.

Moving forward

“The guys are feeling disillusioned. Everything that happens to us is bad. The one who needs to show a different face is me. I can demand my players deliver, work hard and do what we ask of them, which they do. Success and the situations that occur in play are also related to the level of nerves the players are dealing with. All I can do is push them and keep on going”.

Next weekend

“I always think, despite the situation in the rankings and the feelings running through the team, next weekend is another chance and we must keep on working. If they say to me that this will happen, I don’t believe them. I trust in my players so much that I think it’s going to be different. If not, then I make sure I’m bursting with energy. I cannot allow my players to see me discouraged. I’m not, despite the situation. It’s not the first difficult position I’ve seen in my life, but this is a bit extreme. My players mustn’t see me demoralised, as that’s not how I feel”.

Keep working

“Of course I’m concerned. Every Malaguista, new and old, is worried. We’ve seen that even when we do things correctly, we’re not reaping rewards. I don’t know if it’s a lack of quality, accuracy or the tension there is in these situations, but we will never give up. We’ve changed systems and players, but it hasn’t happened. We must have patience, and patience on our part is to keep working and seeking solutions. The players deliver, without a doubt”.

Fans

“The message I must convey to the fans is to stick with us until the end. I don’t need to say a lot, they are always behind the team. We must thank them as there have never been any reproaches when we start a match”.

Sensations

“The sensations are very bad, but I would never dare say that the team is in the Second Division. We cannot portray this image because we are professionals and cannot allow it. It would be like throwing in the towel and feeling comfortable about it, which for my part, I would not permit. I’m certain we will not be in the Second Division. Things will turn around, and when they do, the team will show what it really is. Every player on this squad has their past, and the majority have performed in middle teams. However, given the circumstances, maybe I haven’t found the formula, even though I’m trying”.
