Statements by Ignasi Miquel
First trip
“The three or four days I’ve been with the team have been perfect. You can tell that the team is in a difficult, complicated situation, but the mentality is very positive, and there’s a lot of hard work in training. The trip to San Sebastián was spectacular. You could see how happy the players were on the way back, having won away from home and bringing back three very important points to stay in the fight to get out of the relegation zone. I’m delighted to be part of the team, and want to help in any way I can”.
Opportunity
“At the time everything happened it was quite surprising. I wasn’t really expecting it as I thought that if anything would happen it would be in January. Opportunities come along, and you have to grab them with both hands and not let them pass. I am privileged to be part of this Club and its history. I’m thrilled to have arrived in December, so I can acclimatise to the team as soon as possible, and help my teammates, both on and off the pitch, as well as make it tough for the coach when it comes to choosing the team”.
Adapting
“My teammates have been amazing from the outset. I’m adapting quickly thanks to them. They are close, familiar and care about anything you might need. You feel part of the dressing room and everything, and with the coach and coaching team as well. Martín Demichelis can help me a lot due to his past as a central defender. I try to be like a sponge and learn as much as possible from them. I have no problem in adapting myself to anything asked of me”.
England and Spain
“I had a very bad year or so in England and needed a change of scenery. Coming back to Spain worked out, as it helped me to improve as a footballer and person. In addition, it opened doors that I didn’t have before”.
Great club
“We all know Málaga’s history. I don’t believe they deserve to be in this position. It was an opportunity for me to be part of a great Club. I follow the First Division and I’ve seen that Málaga haven’t had a very good start. I am fully confident in changing the course and getting results. I’m so pleased to be here at this Club and excited about such a wonderful opportunity. I’m eager to help and keep growing as a player”.
