Highly emotional end to the season

The Club remembered Arnau, the players showed their support for Paco Martín Aguilar and the Málaga Costa del Sol women’s handball team were congratulated for their success.

Málaga Club de Fútbol ended the 20/21 season with a great 3-0 victory against CD Castellón, at La Rosaleda Stadium.

It wasn’t only sport that took centre stage on this special day. Before kick-off, a minute’s silence was held in memory of Francesc Arnau. The ex player – and captain – at MCF for over a decade, as well as director of the MCF Academy and the Club’s former sporting director, recently passed away very suddenly.

Health, which is always the most important thing in life, has been a factor for Francisco Martín Aguilar lately. The Protocol and Institutional Relations adviser at the Blue and White Club has stepped back from his usual duties as he recovers from surgery, always in good spirits. The players donned t-shirts stating ‘Te queremos Paco’ (‘We love you Paco’) ahead of #MálagaCastellón, symbolising the entire Club’s appreciation and affection for Paco.

Furthermore, Club Balonmano Femenino Málaga Costa del Sol represented a positive note to the end of the 2020/21 campaign. President Pepa Moreno and team captain Sole López, two of the great architects of the historic treble title win achieved last year (European EHF, Copa de la Reina and SuperCup), were at La Rosaleda to show off their trophies. A true example of national women’s handball and living history, in its own right, of Málaga sport.

There was also the traditional end-of-season family photo of the team, next to the Fondo Sur goal at the Martiricos stadium. Sergio Pellicer, lifted up in the air by his players, experienced a night full of mixed emotions, as his commendable time as Blue and White first team coach came to an end. It was, without a doubt, a day to remember for Malaguismo.
