Hard work with no reward for the women’s team against Granadilla (1-3)

The Malaguistas suffered a 1-3 defeat in a game they dominated for the first 45 minutes, with a standout goal from María Ruiz, who with two goals is the ‘pichichi’ of the team.

Málaga CF Femenino lost by 1-3 to UD Granadilla Tenerife at the José Burgos Quintana in Coín on Liga Iberdrola matchday 7. The goal from María Ruiz in minute 12, the second for the Malaguista in this category confirms her place – for now – as the team’s top scorer. However, it wasn’t enough to overcome the rival from Tenerife.

UD Granadilla Tenerife got off to a strong start at the José Burgos, highlighted by a powerful shot from Martín Prieto in minute 3, but went past the goal defended by Chelsea. Little by little Málaga became more comfortable and executed a much cleaner game. Equality was prevalent between both teams, but the balance tipped in favour of the Malaguistas after 12 minutes. Adriana recovered possession in midfield and delivered a perfectly placed ball to the feet of María Ruiz. The Malagueña, unmarked, slammed the ball past the left post defended by Aline to take her team 1-0 in front, her second goal in the Liga Iberdrola.

Málaga dominated the ball and, as such, the first half. In 28’, a shot from Adriana Martín hit the post, sending out a warning to Granadilla that the locals wanted more goals. However, 10 minutes later, following a controversial play, Joyce Borini equalised (1-1). Málaga’s number ‘10’ didn’t give up and before the half-time whistle tried her luck from midfield with a shot that collided with the post. At half-time the score was all square.

The second half kicked off with a stronger Granadilla, who took the lead in the 60th minute with a goal from Estella. The Tenerife player netted a goal following a Pisco free kick (1-2). Málaga weren’t about to throw in the towel, and the reaction following the rival goal led to a shot from Pamela that resulted in a corner. Both sides fought in midfield and Contreras made some changes to give minutes to Kuc in place of Natalia, Míriam in place of Dominika and Celia in substitution of Leti. In 85’ Adriana narrowly missed out on an equaliser, but the ball went over the line. In 90’ the referee signalled four minutes of stoppage time, and in 93’ Paloma scored the 1-3 victory for the Tenerife side.
