Contreras: "I loved the team in the first half”

The Malaguista coach analyses the match against UD Granadilla Tenerife: “We competed against a top team and stood up to them”.

Coach analysis

“You leave annoyed because you lost, but we did so against a good team. Anyone who knows what’s happening in the Liga Iberdrola knows about UDG. On their own merit they deserve to be at the top, and we have to keep our feet on the ground. This team will be in the First Division whatever happens as today we competed against a top team and stood up to them. It’s certainly true that they were two very different games. I’m not going to lay blame on my players. In the first half we dominated possession, whereas in the second half the wind affected us. The rival is very good upfront, and the slight wind led to us losing the ball”.

María Ruiz’s goal

“The goal was superb. I’d not done it for years and I’m very happy. Making three consecutive passes and forcing Granadilla to work without the ball. In the second half the opposite happened, they took the ball from us, we gave it to them”.

Next rival: Madrid CFF

“This means we are obliged to win. However, we’re obliged to beat everyone. Madrid deserves utmost respect as we know how hard they work, and we also know that we’ve come from the Second Division and are now in the top flight”.

Starting-11

“At the moment I’m not going to change it. They didn’t do a bad job. We lost 1-3 but this is the same line-up that beat Espanyol and Logroño. I loved the team in the first half. You had to ask yourself, who is María José, Martín Prieto… and our girls, you know who they are. María Ruiz is the ‘pichichi’, Adriana hit the post twice. Why would we change? The team is doing a great job”.
