Guede: “You don’t have to say anything to the fans, you have to show them”
The Blue and White coach held a press conference following #MálagaLasPalmas: “We can’t doubt the squad we have, we must make it work,” he said.
Pablo Guede analysed the tough defeat against UD Las Palmas on LaLiga SmartBank matchday 2: “I think in the first half, up until the goal, the match was going how we wanted it to. We messed up and paid the price, as Las Palmas punish you when you don’t perform well against them. They are a team that plays very well,” he commented.
He was questioned about the fans’ reaction at the end of the match, as they were visibly upset: “You don’t have to say anything to the fans, you have to show them. I’m not going to change my message to them,” he continued.
The coach doesn’t blame the squad for the tough defeat: “Of course we all came here tonight with an expectation that didn't happen. Today was very clear to me, I am to blame and would take the players out of the context of today's match. I'm in charge, I have no problem with that. I know it's early in the season, but we’ll get better. I’m very clear on that,” he explained.
“A difference of four goals isn’t normal. A 0-4 defeat at home should not be applauded, the fans’ reaction is normal,” he said in regard to the fans’ response to the result.
The match planning fell apart: “The approach to play was to make some great attempts and deal with the counterattacks. Yet everything went wrong,” he commented.
“We can’t doubt the squad we have, we must make it work. Of course, wins generate more confidence than defeats, but as I see the lads work, I can't have any doubts. If the doubts are due to the system, we have to continue adjusting it. These things must be improved,” he added.
